Brita and Torstein have a background as helicopter pilots in the North Sea. In 2023, after over 20 years in the offshore industry, the couple moved with their 3 daughters from Norway to the equestrian farm Munka Tågarps Gård.
Brita hails from a family of traders in Östersund, with branches in areas including passenger cars, lorries, forestry, and real estate. The company was founded by Brita's grandfather, who began his career trading horses in the early 1900s. At the picturesque Munka Tågarps Gård, Brita now completes the circle.
Brita obtained a Master of Science in Geology and worked as a geologist in the 1990s but decided to pursue her dream of flying, so she trained as a helicopter pilot in 2000, where she met her husband Torstein. The couple has followed each other's careers and worked for the same company both in Scotland and on the west coast of Norway. Brita mainly worked with passenger transport to oil platforms in the North Sea, while Torstein focused on search and rescue (SAR) offshore.
A desire for a quieter life with more time for family ultimately led the Sandven family to decide to move to Sweden and invest in an equestrian business.
Torstein comes from Bergen in Norway, where his family has a background in contracting. Torstein attended a agricultrural high school and is trained as an agronomist. He has also been involved in many entrepreneurial sectors, such trucktransport, construction and machinery work, vehicle recovery, etc., before eventually retraining as a helicopter pilot and meeting Brita.
The talent and interest in horses of their youngest daughter sparked the idea of a horse farm, and the couple has now built a business at Munka Tågarps Gård, alongside some of the most experienced riders in Sweden, to ensure the future of the horse farm.
Jacob has ridden, trained, and competed his whole life and achieved success at an early age with individual European Championship silver at 15 years old, followed by individual European Championship and Swedish Championship gold the year after. He is an A-trainer in show jumping and was the Chef d’Equipe for the Swedish junior and youth national team from 2014 to 2016, achieving Swedish European Championship gold in both 2014 and 2015 as a result.
He has won Swedish Championship medals both individually and as part of a team as a senior, claimed numerous Grand Prix victories and Derby wins, represented Sweden in several Nations Cups, and participated in various 5* Grand Prix competitions.
Despite sportorientated successes, Jacob and Sara have primarily focused on finding and producing horses up to the highest level, and then facilitating their sale to top riders worldwide, including 5* GP horses such as: Point Break & Ginger-Blue (Ben Maher), Skyhorse (Lillie Keenan), Cloudio (Richard Vogel), J-Boston S.E (Sydney Schulman), Chuck Bass (Jessica Mendoza), Mansini Ltd (Richard Howley), Jus d’Orange winner of Bisthof (Isabel Coleman), as well as horses that have achieved significant success at the junior level, such as Tiger Rose (Valentina Jarl) who won Junior SM gold in 2024, Caliban H (Moa Behrens) winner of the Norwegian Derby in 2021, among others.
Sara began her riding career at a riding school in Ekerö and then progressed to pony racing on the Shetland pony Turbo Nisse. She won the youth SM individually in showjumping and has a number of team SM golds both on pony and as a senior.
She has represented Sweden in Nations Cup showjumping at the senior level and, together with Jacob, has produced a large number of horses, from young horse classes up to Grand Prix.
She is a C-level showjumping coach and has won competitions at up to 150 level showjumping, but focuses primarily on finding and producing younger horses since the arrival of her son Ludvig.
